Growing up, I was a bridge. I connected my parents as they followed different paths. I connected Vermont and Nebraska, two wildly different places where I spent one year in turn with each parent. Even my name set me down between two opposites- meaning light in one language and dark in another. So in addition to my physical homes, I put roots down in my dreams- the things I could take with me wherever I went. I made a home for myself in my dance training, in music, in books and the dream to create them.
When I was ten, I wrote that my dream was to be a dancer and a children’s book author. Along the way, I earned a BFA in Dance, minored in Creative Writing, and had poetry published in The Untidy Season and multiple small journals.
As a professional performer and dance educator, I have accomplished one half of it. I perform with Intrepidus Dance and Lucia Neare’s Theatrical Wonders and run Moving Minds Dance, where my students learn all things through dance. Now, I am crossing the bridge to the other side of my dreams and becoming an author.
